New iTunes Alternative DoubleTwist has Amazon MP3 Store for Windows - Gizmodo

PC owners now have access to doubleTwist's Amazon-linked music store, and all doubleTwist users will have support for the most talked about phone of the moment. Not a bad day's worth of updates!

The doubleTwist-Amazon venture has been available for Macs for about a week, and looks like it will deploy the same easy-to-use interface on Windows. It will also have the same all-important advantages over the iTunes Goliath: lower prices and the ability to sync your music to any of your PMPs.

The Nexus One support is a little baffling, since the phone doesn't officially exist yet, but we'll take doubleTwist founder DVD Jon's word for it.

Windows release notes:

Changes

* Integrated Amazon MP3 music store. Currently only users with a U.S. credit card can purchase from the store.
* You can now re-import your iTunes or Windows Media Player playlists (in the Preferences dialog).
* Support for the Nexus One Android phone.

Mac release notes:

Changes

* Support for playlist sync.
* There's now an option in the music store to "Keep me signed in".
* You can now link doubleTwist to your Twitter and Facebook accounts (in the Preferences) and optionally broadcast your music purchases to your friends.
* Fixed an issue with the music store not loading on older Mac OS X 10.5 versions (e.g. 10.5.5).
* Support for the Nexus One Android phone.

I've already made the switch and I am enjoying it. Sort of reminds me when iTunes was a simpler program to use. What is the real standout is the ability to download directly from Amazon MP3 store.

Can I just say that I'm glad someone out there is still charging a decent price for download. I think it's absolute ass that Apple has jacked the price of a single mp3 all the way up to $1.99 pending on the popularity of said song.

Bastards...

AT&T: New iPhone will be hot, son : Boy Genius Report

We can’t tell you where or who, but pretty high up in AT&T’s food chain, the following was reported to be said:

  • New iPhone announcement around mid-June (duh)
  • New iPhone will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device (could be just talking about 3.0, but we think it’s also a new iPhone)
  • U-Verse iPhone application; will allow control of your home DVR (play, pause, rewind, etc.)
  • The annual iPhone launch is “becoming a tradition.”
  • Nothing official is being confirmed, but they said that people should prep for an exciting time this summer.
  • AT&T is said to be working with Apple to create a unified product with an unparalleled experience across all their products and services.
  • Apple’s 3.0 software should tell us where the iPhone platform is going… uh, k?
  • They said customers shouldn’t need to choose from AT&T’s high-end devices because of features, they should choose based on preferences. The gap in capability should be filled with the new iPhone. Ok, bets on slide out QWERTY, autofocus camera, video sharing, blah blah?
  • Seems like the higher speed HSDPA (7.2Mbps) is being hinted at too which should confirm the earlier rumors of the new Infineon chipset.
  • The $99 3G netbook will start selling this summer, and the first one won’t be a Windows OS.

For clarification, the above is 100% confirmed.

Thanks, Stephanie!

ok, so the ultra geek (read Apple fanboy) in me is completely drooling at this point. There's something big (or small rather) coming from Cupertino this June. And, I for one will definitely hop on the band wagon. I'm tired of my almost two year old first gen iphone and want the speed of 3G on a stable hardware platform. I think that Apple has learned a lot from the current revision of iphone and all the problems it had fairly early on.

The good news is that I'm up for a discounted upgrade!!!!
